Bosch DDS182-02 Drill Review 2017
The Bosch DDS182-02 is an 18 volt drill that does not get the best of ratings. With only a small number of reviews, so fa they have rated this model at only 3.5 out of 5 stars. For now, and until things change, I would avoid making a purchase of this one. If you are looking for a better Bosch drill, click here for my top 10 list.
For those who are interested in this model, then please continue to read, to find out more information. At around $175 this is not a cheap purchase, and when you pay this amount of money, you are looking to own an exceptionally good drill. Now I think this one has been rated a little harshly. When there are not that many reviews, then a couple of bad reviews, will really drop the rating.
When I checked the bad reviews, they were mainly that this drill stooped working, after a few weeks. So from just 17 reviews, 5 of those were negative, but the others were very good. The negative reviews all said there was a problem with the trigger which caused the drill to stop working.
Key Features and Specifications
With dimensions of 13 x 11 x 3.4 inches, a head length of slightly over 7 inches ,and a weight of 7.1 pounds, the Bosch DDS182-02 is classed as a compact drill/driver, typical of what you will find in the market. The battery-powered cordless drill comes with Bosch’s Durashield housing that comprises of ABS/nylon composite.
One unique feature about this tool is that it boasts of an 18-volt brushless motor that is also protected from overheating or misuse through customised Electronic Motor Protection system. The tool comes with 18+ 1 clutch positions, variable speed trigger, and built-in LED lighting. Each of the two 18-volt, 2.0 Ah lithium-ion batteries allow the drill to attain a peak torque of 442in.lbs and a top speed of 1700RPM. The speed comes in either the more torque less power 0-500rpm, or the less torque more power 0-1700rpm.
The ABS/nylon Durashield housing protects the drill from falls and bumps. Tests indicate that it won’t break even after being dropped from heights of 10 feet. In spite of its small size, the drill is more efficient and its motor lasts twice as long as others due to use of brushless motors.
The new design is more ergonomic and the soft-grip wrapped housing provides good grip with minimal soreness or discomfort. Coming with a 7-inch head length, easy to reach trigger, balanced weight, and LED lighting, the cordless drill can be manoeuvred in tight corners and dark spaces with ease.
For improved efficiency and productivity the DDS182 features a belt clip and a magnetic four-tip holder for bits as standard. This improves safety and storage of bits and other attachments. To prevent overloading and maintain cool temperature, the battery pack is protected by Electronic Cell Protection System that further extends the battery’s life.
– Sturdy and Durable
The Bosch DDS182-02 is made from sturdy material that is resistant against scratches, cracking, or heat. Even after falling severally and getting banged against other objects, the drill/driver still maintains its shape and appearance.
– Fast and Powerful
The drill feels quite fast especially on light duties such as driving small screws less than 4 inches, drilling holes on soft surfaces. Also, it delivers ample torque which is needed when working on harder surfaces and longer screws, the best selection is the 0-500 RPM range.
–Compact and Balanced
The drill is not only light and compact but also feels well-balanced and comfortable on the hand. The good weight distribution plus soft-grip housing minimise the chances of soreness, numbness or tiring too quickly.
– Not the Cheapest
The drill is slightly pricier than similar models in the market. In fact, it is priced much higher than other models and brands that deliver more power and torque. I also think this drill needs a price adjustment as it seems a little over priced at this moment.
– Longer charging Time
It takes at least 45 minutes to charge a drained battery, while other similar batteries from other brands can be charged in 30 minutes. This can be a hindrance when working on a long project or if the other battery is dead.
