Dewalt Portable Band Saw Review 2017
As portable band saws go, there is little doubt that the Dewalt DWM120K leads the way. Anyone who uses any type of power tool will instantly recognise the Dewalt brand. It is of course known for producing high quality power tools. This portable band saw is no exception.
When you see that it has achieved and maintained a 4.8 out of 5 star rating by buyers over at Amazon, then you know this is a top quality product. When you have worked in the trade like I have, then this is in my opinion, the only portable band saw I would consider buying.
I try not to over state how good a product is, but this is certainly the best one that I have ever used.
Check out the video review below to get a good overview of what this product is all about.
As you can see this is a powerful saw thanks to the 10 Amp motor. For sure you need power when it comes to using one of these as that just speed any type of cutting. When time is money, then that is of course, very important.
When you are out on a site, you want something that can do the job quickly and accurately. You also want something that will stick the rigours of working out on a site. The reality is that your tools will get abused when out on jobs, and you just need something that can stand up to that.
For me anyway, and particular to band saws is bending blades. When you apply forces to a blade to get some cutting done, then you will bow the blade.
That is normal otherwise the blades would continually break. However the bow can not be so large that it cuts curves instead of straight lines. For me anyway this is where the DWM120K truly comes into its own. The cuts are straight and accurate.
No-one sets out to drop their tools and I was no exception. It happens though especially when you least expect it. I have dropped this one a couple of times from about table height, and other than a scrape to the casing, there was not other impact. This saw is a tough product in my opinion.
It has a solid steel shroud and tough rubber bumpers that act as strong resistance to any knocks or falls.
This saw also has a hang hook which can be handy if working up ladders. Personally I try not to leave an expensive saw like this dangling by a hook, but there are times when you have little or no choice. That is when this hook is really useful.
Light and Easy To Use
Well if it is to call itself portable it needs to be light. I have held some of these so called portable tools and believe me, they are anything but portable. This Dewalt saw weighs just 15 lbs. Now don’t get me wrong, I would not want to be carrying that around all day, but as portable saws go this one is considered pretty light.
The controls on this saw are well positioned and easy to access. The variable speed works of a simple wheel, and any other adjustments I have to make, such as for overhead cutting, only take a couple of seconds.
This one has a 5″ depth of cut and plenty for most of the jobs that you will need to get done. With the right blade this saw can get through anything.
This is a powerful and sturdy saw. The variable speed means it is suitable for cutting through a whole variety of materials. Many people including myself made a simple bench stand and then used this as a bench saw. That should tell you how useful this one can be.
This is the one that professionals use and for very good reasons. Many of the reviewers bought this band saw to be able to cut through steel. So if you need to get through steel bar, pipes, beams there is no need for an angle grinder when you have this in your kit.
