Makita LCT209W Review 2017 Power Combo Kit
This is my review of the Makita LCT209W Combo kit. Like many of these two piece kits, you get a drill and an impact driver. The thing about this combo kit that jumped off the page at me was the extremely high ratings this kit has received from highly satisfied buyers.
When we checked the many review websites online, this high rating was very consistent across all of them. It has an overall 94% buyer satisfaction rate. It is also from a high quality brand. The RRP on this one is around $140. That will of course vary, depending on where you make your actual purchase.
Now by any measurement, that is a pretty amazing rating, so that made me look into this one, in a lot more detail.
Main Features of the Makita LCT209W
Let’s look at each tool in turn and see what they have to offer. You get a drill and you also get an impact driver. You also get two 12 volt Lithium-Ion batteries, a rapid charger (30 minutes for a full charge) and a solid aluminium tool case. It all adds up to really good value for money.
This is a variable 2-speed drill, with a keyless chuck that delivers 200 inch/lbs of torque. This drill only weighs 2.2 lbs has a good grip and is easy to set up and adjust.
This drill can be used for normal speed drilling, and can also be used for screw driving. That does make it very useful.
This type of drill is ideal for using around the home. It is lightweight and compact, so can easily be used in confined spaces. It is worth noting though that this is a 12 volt set, so not ideal if you plan on doing heavier drilling work.
It will be able to handle jobs like putting up shelves, and for drilling through wood, building flat pack furniture etc. That is the types of jobs that this drill is designed to achieve.
It has 2 speeds and has a standard 3/8″ chuck so can accept both straight shank drill bits and 1/4″ hex drill bits. It also comes with a useful LED work light. This is what I would class as a good all rounder for using around the home and garden.
The Impact Diver
This is a variable speed impact driver that delivers 800 lbs in torque. The driver weighs 2 pounds yet still delivers real power. Now I have already said that the drill in this combo kit is very good.
However the impact driver really is the star of the show.
It is really light unlike many of its competitors. However it does pack a mighty punch. We were very impressed with just how much power, this Makita impact driver actually had.
It has an RPM of 0-2,400 RPM and can deliver between 0-3,000 impacts per minute. For a small 12 volt driver, that is highly impressive.
Now like the drill, this will not be able to do the very tough jobs, but it can handle all of the common tasks with some ease. It also uses the same batteries, so you only need the two that come with this combination kit.
You get two batteries which are Lithium-Ion 12 volt batteries. That means you can be charging one and using one which is always handy. If you have these Li-ion batteries then you have the best battery type available in the market today.
This Combo Kit comes with a fast charge DC10WB battery, that can have the battery fully charged in just 30 minutes. This charger also earned the ENERGY STAR label for its efficiency. As far as battery charging goes, this is right at the top of the range for speed and also lasts a decent amount of time.
There is a limited 3-year warranty on both tools and a 1-year warranty on the batteries, the charger and the flash light.
All of these parts come in a nice aluminium presentation case. This types of case rather than a bag offers better protection for your tools.
These are two great tools that can be used for most jobs around the home. They are light and easy to handle, yet you have plenty of power when you need it. These actually make a great gift for someone in my opinion. Many reviewers talk about the power this can deliver, and as it is compact and light in weight, it helps them get into small and confined working spaces.
When reading the reviews I noticed that quite a number of mechanics were really impressed with the impact driver in particular. The fact that it was small and compact meant they could use it in places, that larger drivers simply would not fit. Some small businesses gave this kit to their staff as they found it to be long lasting and durable. Many reviewers stated that they had been using this set for around 2 years and they were still going strong.
It seems pretty ideal for home use and also for small business use. It was interesting to see the different tasks this Combo kit was used for. I notice guys in bicycle shops, joiners, mechanics, wood workers and construction people all using this and leaving good reviews.
The principle behind buying both tools at the same time, is that you save money. That is certainly the case with this Makita LCT209W cordless combination kit.
