Bosch Cordless Drills Reviews
In this article we review the top 10 rated cordless drills from the Bosch brand. There are many guys out there who just love this brand and will usually buy from them on a regular basis. Personally I buy all my garden tools from them as I think they make great lawnmowers, strimmers etc.
For my power tools I usually buy Dewalt, but for those that love this brand, then they do have a nice range of drills and accessories. They are certainly well rated by their buyers and that after all is the most important thing.
Below I have included a table that lists these so as you can do a quick comparison. You can also sort this table by clicking on the filters. As you can see from this they are a very distinctive brand and the quality of their drills is very high.
After the table I have included a short summary review on each of these products. I will include a link from each of the summaries to a more detailed article should you wish to find out more about any specific drill.
About the Bosch Group
The Bosch Group is a really huge brand that generated sales of around $62 Billion a year. They are made up of a number of groups and subsidiaries. Their mission is that “Bosch enhances the quality of life by providing solutions which are both innovative and beneficial.”
They have been in business for around 130 years and are a well known producer of tools and electronics throughout the world. On average they will send out into the market around 100 new and improved tools every single year.
Just below you will find a table that lists their top rated cordless drills.[table id=14 /]
Bosch DDS181-02 Model
This is by a very long way their best selling model as can be evidenced by over 200 buyer reviews at Amazon who give this an excellent rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars, which is right up there with the best of them.
This is a very high quality products and for the average price tag of around $160, we think it does represent very good value for money.
This does normal jobs around the home but it has actually been designed as a heavy duty drill so can also handle those tougher jobs that need a bit of real power to do. It uses an 18 volt Lithium-Ion battery and what we like best about this one is that it is small and compact enough to allow you to work in small or confined spaces.
Bosch HDS181-02 Model
This particular HDS181-02 model has over 100 buyer reviews who rate this on on average at 4.7 out of 5 stars, which is slightly higher than their best selling product which I have shown above.
Again this is an 18 volt Li-Ion battery and if you buy this one you will get two of these batteries along with the drill.
It is a 2-speed drill which also has variable speed built into it. Like many in the Bosch range this is built as a rugged style which means it works well for contractors and professionals and can stand up to abuse.
The housing is made of a composite so it will not crack or break should you drop it by accident.
Bosch DDS181-01 Model
Now it is at the higher end of the Bosch price point, but you do get the drill, a charger, 2 batteries and a case for your money.
This drill is small, light and compact but packed with power which is why users really like this product. The grip on this one is great and it comes with an LED light so as you can see the work space if you happen to be in dark or confined spaces, and that is always useful.
It has an 1/2″ keyless chick, 2-speeds and 18 clutch settings so ideal for a whole range of drilling tasks.
Bosch DDS180-02 Model
This is around $140 and again is a good selling product. There are plenty of reviews for this product and overall they give it an average of 4.6 out of 5 stars which yet again is a very good rating by any standards.
Like the others this is an 18 volt product which can pack plenty of power.
Like the others this has a good rugged design and that makes it suitable for taking plenty of use. Bosch really have taken care to makes their drills compact and lightweight and yet retain plenty of power whenever you need it.
The model that I have reviewed below is a slightly newer version of this product, but this one still sells really well
Bosch DDS181-102L Model
This one comes with a solid storage box which is an excellent product. Again Bosch have used the 18 volt Li-Ion batteries to power this drill.
The storage box is part of a bigger storage system that Bosch designed as it allows contractors to stack power tools on top of one another for easy storage.
They call this the L-BOXX system so if you are a contractor or professional this is a great way of storing tools like this drill in your van or lorry.
When you receive this drill it comes fully charged. It also has a flash light with it and it is quiet when in use.

Bosch DDB180-02 Model
This DDB180-02 model is again at the higher end of the price point range and you can get it, depending on where you purchase it, for around $200. This is a real lightweight drill weighing in at 3 lbs so no danger of hand or arm fatigue when using this one.
It also has an LED light, comes with two batteries at 18 volts each and a carrying case. This one has a 15 position clutch that will prevent you from stripping screw heads and it is a drill that feels really nice to use. It has 2 speeds, is well balanced and nice and light.
The case has plenty of room to hold drill bits and other accessories which is handy.
Bosch DDS182-02 Model
This model costs around $180 and this one is fairly new so not a huge number of reviews to go on. Of those that are there they rate this 4.2 out of 5 stars so this is the lowest rated drill in the top 10 list. Now 4.2 is still a good rating but it remains lower than all of the others.
I put that down to a value for money reason. With many of the others the price is slightly lower and you may get a little extra as well. With this model it uses a brushless motor and that is in essence why this one costs more.
If you have used a drill for any length of time you will know that the motor can wear out. It isn’t usually the motor at all but the brushes wearing out on the motor. They then need to be replaced which is a pain to do or expensive to get done.
With the brushless motor this problem does not happen so the drill will last a lot longer.
Bosch PS31-2A Model
We would almost call this a stubby drill/driver but it certainly packs into its small frame an incredible amount of power.
The people who buy this are trades people who do a lot of overhead work such as electricians, HVAC engineers, anyone doing cable running etc.
It is also a great choice for anyone who regularly has to work in tight or confined spaces. It has a well placed LED light as well just above the trigger and that also helps a lot in confined areas.
So in summary a lot of power in a small package and perfect for overhead work.
Bosch HDS182-02L Model
You are at the very high end of the price scale with this one which will set you back around $240 so certainly not a cheap option.
If you have to do a lot of drilling into concrete or masonry of any kind, then you will always need a good quality hammer drill.
This is about as good a one as I have seen and reviewed. There really is a lot to like about this one but it has a stiff price point.
There are a few little extras with this one such as a belt clip and a four tip bit holder and bits and you do get a really good storage case.
Bosch HDS182BL Model
If you have other 18 volt batteries that you use in other Bosch tools then it will also fit this drill. If you don’t have that it means you will have to also buy a battery.
Many manufacturers do this types of model where a single cordless battery fits a range of their tools and in this case this drill is what Bosch offer with this product.
You do get the high quality storage case but for me at around $150 I would expect to have a battery included and that is not the case.
There is no doubt that it is a good enough product, but unless you already own a Bosch battery, it is one that we would give a miss.
Summary of the Bosch Cordless Drills
So folks there you have it, a summary review of what we believe to be the top 10 Bosch cordless drills. As you can see they sit in the $140-200 range and are designed to be rugged and very robust and durable. Almost all of them have been designed for heavier drilling needs and they all use the Lithium-Ion 18 volt battery type for power.
Judging by the consistently high ratings there is no doubt that should you decide to buy one of these, they are indeed a very high quality so we are sure that you will not be at all disappointed. The biggest problem for most people here will be the price point.
Other manufacturers like Black & Decker have more affordable drills and we have reviewed those here. What you are getting with Bosch is more suited to someone who does a lot of home projects, or work as a trades person or in a contractor or trade style of business.
There is a lot to be said for owning a Bosch drill as they do have an excellent customer service and really good support. We understand that the price point is high, but that is what you will pay for a high quality cordless drill from Bosch. Hopefully you have found this useful and informative.
