Our Review of the DEWALT DCK299P2 20V MAX XR Lithium Ion Brushless Premium Hammerdrill & Impact Driver Combo Kit
This is our review of the expensive, but popular DEWALT DCK299P2 Lithium Ion Premium Hammerdrill & Impact Driver Combo Kit. As the name would suggest you get two tools, the hammer drill and the impact driver. These come along with 2 high capacity batteries and the all important charger.
All these items can be stored in the supplied heavy duty case, along with a side handle for the drill and 2 belt hooks. The batteries are from the main Dewalt 20V MAX XR range, which makes them compatible with many other tools, in that battery range.
This is the latest and best range of power tools from Dewalt, so at least you know that this is their most current range. Almost every buyer who owns a 20 volt product appears to be delighted with the power that these can produce.
Who Would Buy This Dewalt Combo Kit?
This combo kit is a very good choice for anyone who does a LOT of drilling or who wants to do heavy duty drilling. The typical homeowner could of course make good use of this combination kit, however there is no need to spend this type of money, to be able to have a good quality cordless drill for home use.
There are plenty of more affordable options available. Have a look at my top 10 cordless list of drills and you will see what I mean. Most home owners will never have any need for an impact driver, and that tool would remain unused.
Impact drivers are mainly used with nuts and bolts, but they are very useful for driving in long screws, or for drilling into the harder woods. We shall now have a look at this combination kit in a lot more detail.

You also get a Dewalt DCF887 Impact Driver that gives you 1,825 in-lbs of max torque at fast 0-3,250 RPM speed and 0-3,600 impacts per minute
These are both compact enough to allow you to drill in tight areas. You also get 2 Dewalt "20 Volt MAX lithium Ion batteries, a charger which all come in a hard durable case.

We include this section early in our article, because at the end of the day, if buyers have rated the product with a bad rating, we assume that it isn't something that you would buy, and probably will not want to waste your valuable time reading about it any more.
Most buyers however don't have the time to read all of the reviews from all the selling websites. Here at "Tool and Go," we do have the time and that is why we do that for you and then summarise it.

DEWALT DCK299P2 20V Specification & Important Details
This kit comes in a hard plastic case which is great for keeping everything together. It is the standard heavy duty case from Dewalt and has been designed to hold the tools and accessories neatly in place.
You also get a couple of belt hooks.
Batteries and Charger
We have said this so often, but we always repeat it. Any cordless tool is only as good as the battery that powers it. As this is a cordless kit, the batteries are vitally important.
With this kit you get two "DCB205 20V MAX* XR High Capacity Li-Ion Batteries (5.0 Ah)" These are part of the 20 Volt MAX Lithium-Ion range, and that makes them compatible with many other Dewalt power tools. By owning this type of battery, you can then buy other Dewalt "bare tools" which are much cheaper than having to buy a battery each time.
The 20 Volt batteries are now being produced as standard and are more powerful than the 18 Volt range. The run time on these is excellent and better than any other on the market, in our opinion.
The charger is for 110 Volts only and is a fast charger.
Now let's have a look at the actual tools which are really what this kit is all about. They each have their own model number as shown below:
- DCD996 Hammer Drill
- DCF887 Impact Driver
We shall look at each in more detail below.
DCD996 Hammer Drill
- 3 speed levels, 0-2,000 RPM

- All metal transmission
- 1/2" heavy duty metal chuck
- Variable speed trigger
- Brushless motor
- 3 Mode LED spotlight
- Measures 4 x 10 x 8 inches and weighs 4 lbs
This is a small compact drill/driver that will allow you to get into confined spaces. The LED lights on this drill are very good. The power is excellent and the brushless motor and all metal transmission means this drill is certainly built to last.
DCF887 Impact Driver
- 1/4" Hex chuck impact driver
- 1,825 lbs in torque
- 0-3,250 RPM
- 0-3,600 impacts per minute
- Brushless motor
- 3-Speed drive

These are two high quality tools and you can buy them as individual units. The beauty of any combination kit is that you will normally find that when combined, they are a bit cheaper.
