This random orbital sander is a popular choice, and from the brand Festool, that many buyers really do seem to like. The model number is 571817 but is more often referred to as the ETS 125 random orbital sander.

In this article I will do a detailed review on this model so as you can decide if this is the one for you. The 571817 model from Festool is not cheap at almost $200.

People do buy this one though because of the brand name mainly. Most buyers rate this one at 4.2 stars out of 5. That is a consistent, it not over impressive rating.

That will tell you that although this is a good product, you can see from my best rated sander's table, this is not in our opinion the best value for money choice.

  • Has variable speeds
  • Ideal for better finish results

So those are the important specifications and in summary this is a well made product, with a die-cast aluminium housing and a dual bearing mount pad for better smoothness in operation.

Who Would Buy This Festool 571817 Model?

The manufacturer designed this one to be perfect for working on the finishing element of sanding.

Although this one can quickly remove stock, it also has setting that are ideal for doing things like working on bare wood, or sanding in between coats.

Main Review

It is a good sander and worth having a look at it, especially if you are a fan of this well known brand. It is a very versatile product, is fast at stock removing of wood and probably one of the better one-handed models out there at the moment. It is also compact and light so a good choice for doing either vertical or work that needs done overhead.

If you are someone who is looking to deliver a very high standard of finish, then this will be a very good buy for you. It is a 5" sander and delivers super smooth results.

Dust Removal - Many buyers have said that the dust removal on this is very good.

Not many orbital sanders do that very well, so this one is a bit of an exception to the rule. This one is not cheap, but for those of you who want the perfect finish, then the investment is worth it.

It is smooth to use, and as easy as we have used in terms of control, and if you hook this one up to a vacuum system then the dust extraction is even better than the stand alone option.

Great for Finishing Jobs

Personally I would not use this one for aggressive stock removal, but would have no hesitation in using this one for those in between varnishing finishes, or really any type of finishing.

“The Festool brand is a well known and trusted brand, and those who by from them, really like their products a lot. ”

We would quickly recommend this sander as it does a very good job on finishing. I would not buy this as my main sander as primarily I use a sander for stock removal, but I would as a finishing sander.

The Festool sandpaper I have always found to be very good as well. If you have not used that before, then I would recommend giving it a whirl.

Below you will find a basic video review of this product.

The Good Stuff:
  • Expensive but high quality
  • Nice comfortable size and easy to use
  • Very little vibration when being used
  • Good range of speeds
The Bad Stuff:
  • A few buyers said it lacked power for heavier wood stock removal
  • A few thought it was over priced

Festool fans will have no doubt about the quality of this sander. It is good without question and the ETS 125 is particularly good at creating a smooth and swirl free finish.
