Poulan P3314 14" Gas Powered Chainsaw Review
This is our review of the Poulan P3314 chain saw. This is a 2-cycle gas powered chainsaw, that has an RRP of around $149.99. You can usually find this saw cheaper online, and typical the prices there are in the range of $140-145.
The reality is that buyers don't actually rate this saw very highly. On average they have given this a rating of 3.4 out of 5 stars. Ideally we like to see at least 4 out of 5 stars. Despite that low rating, there are still plenty of buyers. That it would seem simply comes down to two things:
- The affordable price for a gas powered chainsaw
- People buying this want it for what is considered to be light duty work
You can see from the image above, that it looks good, and it is from a good brand. In summary this is a 14" chainsaw, with a 28" diameter cutting capacity, and powered by a 33CC engine.
How Buyers Rate the Poulan P3314 14 Inch Chainsaw
As i mentioned in the opening paragraph, the ratings are pretty mixed on this one. Buyers rate this saw on a star rating from 1 through to 5, with 1 being the lowest, and 5 being the highest.
We have broken those down in percentage terms. That makes it easier for you to see in terms of how buyers allocated their scores.
You can now easily tell, that the spread on the ratings is very large. I don't think I have ever seen a product with 24% giving 1 star ratings. We certainly need to find out why. At the other end of the scale, just over a third of all buyers rate this as a 5 star saw, with 58% rating it 4 stars or higher.
To say this Poulan chainsaw gets mixed rating is certainly very true. Let's have a look at what buyers actually say, and how this chainsaw divides opinion.
What Buyers Say About the Poulan P3314 Model
In this section we will dig into more detail, and find out what buyers actually say. I will start with a few quotes, just to give you the jist of the diverse opinions.
This saw is small and lightweight, and starts easy, so you can toss it around all day without the saw tiring you out
I Love this saw ! Ran awesome, starts easy , plenty of Power !!! This saw worth the buy!!!
Great little saw. Perfect for the home owner or professional. I've used it to cut down and clean up two maple trees, 6 and 12 inch diameters.
This just won't start for my husband, and he has wasted hours on it trying to get it to start
Finally got it to start after 20 minutes, then it quit running as soon as i picked it up,
As others have said, this saw is very hard to get started and impossible to keep running
Now we have read all of the reviews and the theme remains more or less the same as we have shown above. Some people love it as it is lightweight and cuts pretty well. Those that hate it say it is a pain in the butt to start, and when you eventually get it started, it is a bigger pain to keep it going.
We would not recommend this one due to the low rating, and the known problems. If you feel like that, then why not check out our top 10 list of chainsaws, by clicking here. There are much better ones, even if you have to pay a little extra. We have however completed the review below.

Our Verdict on the Poulan 14" Chainsaw (P3314 Model)
We make any recommendations based on buyer ratings. If these are consistent and reliable then we are confident, that you the reader will be buying a good quality product. We like to see at least a 4 star rating or higher.
This one gets 3.4 out of 5 stars, so that falls well below what we think is a satisfactory threshold. The price on this one is just OK, but the very big problem for a great deal of buyers, is the starting up problem.
Just over half of the buyers rate this as 4 stars or higher. For them it is clear that if you get a good one of these, then it works well, and does a good job of cutting. On the other side of the argument, is the high number of buyers who can't get this saw to start up easily.
That would drive me insane, and I have no wish to recommend a product, that might do the same to you. We recommend checking out our top 5 list of gas powered chainsaws. This one looks good, but the starting issue is just too big to ignore.
